Keep Safe While Working
Sack trolleys are found in many warehouses, and they help workers to safely transport goods from one area to another without straining themselves. If your business or workplaces currently does not use hand trolleys or sack trucks to move items about, they should seriously consider implementing their use to help prevent injuries sustained from handling heavy loads.
While trolleys do help to prevent accidents from happening, safety precautions should still be taken at every available opportunity. Before using one, workers should check the condition of the equipment, the balance of the load, and the maximum safe working load of the trolley before using. Let’s go through these points one by one. The condition of the safety equipment should be checked over before using – take a look at the sack trolley handles, the brakes and the condition/ type of sack truck wheels. The handles should be in good condition and not worn out. They should still be anchored to the metal frame and not slip up and down – if this is the case then a different one should be found. Brakes should also be tested – if they don’t work then accidents could happen. Finally, the wheels should be inspected to make sure that they are still intact with no gouges or marks that might make the ride uneven.
Managing the Load
When loading an item the balance of the load should be taken into consideration heavier items on the bottom of the sack trolley and lighter items on top to make sure that it does not keel over when going around corners. The centre-line of the sack truck load should also be evenly distributed to make it as stable as possible. While uneven loads are sometimes a necessity in these cases a securing strap should be used for safety.
All sack trolleys come with a safe working load marked on the side- be sure to observe this limit and do not exceed it. Different models of cart such as foldable sack trucks usually have a lower value than other models so this is also something to bear in mind. As long as you adhere to general health and safety in the workplace guidelines you can help to prevent injuries and ensure that the accident rate is reduced. The next time you have to lift heavy items from one area to another, make sure you use a sack trolley.
